When you are going on vacation to any cities or countries, there are many things that you can observe while you are strolling along. Some buildings displayed the architectural characteristics of certain eras. There are also many museums or art exhibitions where you can learn about history. For people who love nature, there are also many parks or botanical gardens where you can see not only varieties of vegetation but also many kinds of events.
Besides those exciting city attractions, there are also other city sites where you can enjoy the beautiful view, such as the bridges. For example, Tower Bridge in London. This bridge is built over the River Thames. Not only functioned to cross the river, but Tower Bridge is also bascule which means its leaf will swing upward to provide a clear way for boat traffic. The color of the bridge was changed before. In 1977, it was painted red, white, and blue as an honor to Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee. The next time you are around London, you can spend some time to ride across the bridge or even walk on the pavements.
When we are talking about bridges, we cannot avoid talking about the famous Golden Gate Bridge. This one is located in San Francisco and is the one that connects San Francisco Bay with the Pacific Ocean. As one of the most beautiful bridges in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge is considered as the symbol of San Francisco, California, and the United States. Even the American Society of Civil Engineers named this 2.7 kilometers gate as one of the wonders of the modern world.
Besides those two bridges, there is also another bridge you will be amazed by. This one is Bugrinsky’s Bridge in Novosibirsk. We are going to learn about the reasons for Bugrinsky’s Bridge construction in Novosibirsk. You will also find out more about Novosibirsk. Let’s start it!
Novosibirsk is a city in Russia which is the third-most populous city in Russia, right after Moscow and Saint Petersburg. It is located on the side of the Ob River. Initially, there was one bridge, Trans-Siberian railway bridge to cross the Ob River. Ever since the population and the economics kept growing and the city gained the full right for self-government, the officials realize that it needs transportation development. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Turkestan-Siberian railway was completed.
The condition of the bridges is not always fine. During the Russian Civil War, the Ob River Bridge was destroyed. The growth and industrialization of the Novosibirsk never stop. It makes the need for transportation keep increasing. In 1934, tram rails were laid down and, in the next year, the destroyed Ob River Bridge was replaced by the new Kommunalny Bridge.
Just like the Kommunalny Bridge, the Bugrinsky Bridge is a road crossing the Ob River. It is a new bridge since the beginning of the construction was in 2010 and finally finished in 2014. The operation was started in October that year after being officiated by President Vladimir Putin.
This 2.095,7-meter bridge’s initial name was Olovozavodskoy. Its name was changed into Burginsky because this bridge crosses the Bugrinskaya grove. You can find this small wood on the left bank of the Ob River. The name changing was mentioned firstly by the former city mayor, Vladimir Gorodetsky. He stated that the name was outdated because it was already two-decade-old. Later on, the whole commission decided unanimously to change the name into Bugrinsky’s Bridge.
One of the reasons for Bugrinsky’s Bridge construction in Novosibirsk is to help with the traffic. As stated before, the number of people in Novosibirsk keeps growing. With the growing population, it is natural that the number of vehicles will increase. The road capacity must be enough to make sure there is not too much traffic so people will not waste their time on the road. The Bugrinsky’s Bridge is a part of two traffic interchanges: Vatutin, Bolshevistskaya, and Kirov Streets. The construction of this bridge is intended to help 7,180 vehicles passing the river every hour without creating conflicting streams of traffic. it also significantly relieve the traffic flows between motorways M-51 “Baikal” and M-52 “Chuisky Trakt”.
What makes the whole experience of crossing over the Ob River through the Bugrinsky’s Bridge is the view you are going to enjoy while doing so. The Ob River, which is a major river in western Siberia, is the world’s seventh longest river. At the confluence of the Biya and Katun rivers is the place where the Ob River is formed. Those rivers have their origins in the Altay Mountains, which streamed water is used for irrigation, drinking, hydroelectric energy, and fishing.
Besides those functions, the Ob Rives is also very useful when it comes to water transportation. The first steamboat drove on the river in 1844. There was some difficult time during the implementation of the boats but then it went well that in 1916 there were 49 steamers on the Ob River.
Many railways are being developed in this city over time. But, there are still some places and routes that can be reached by the waterways and not by rail. For example, the Ob River is very important for connecting the huge expanses of Tyumen Oblast and Tomsk Oblast with big cities standing along the Trans-Siberian route, such as Novosibirsk and Omsk.
Now we have learned the reasons for Bugrinsky’s Bridge construction in Novosibirsk. It makes you even more interested to go and visit the bridge right? 🙂
