List of Prefixed Verb of Motion in Russian Language

Russian verbs of motion have been learnt in the previous lesson: The list of Russian verb of motion without prefixes. For now, we are going to talk about the list of prefixed verb of motion. In Russian language, the prefixed verb of motion is divided into two forms: spatial value (пространственное значение) and non-spatial value (непространственное значение).

1. The motion verbs with prefix of spatial value

indicate the motion, which is having the definitive direction. The prefixed verbs are при-, в-, вы-, про-, пере-, за-, под-, от-, обо-, с-, вз-, до-, раз- (…-ся), с- (…-ся).

The verbs of unidirectional motion (type идти ‘go/walk) with prefix, will form the perfective aspect verbs. Meanwhile the verbs of multidirectional motion (type ходить ‘go/ride/drive) with prefix, maintain the imperfective aspect verbs.

In the type of verb идти, it has two periods of time like all of the perfective verbs: past tense and future tense. For example:

  • Вчера он выщел из дома в 7 часов.
‘Yesterday he came out from home at 7 o’clock.
  • Завтра он выдет из дома в 10 часов.
’Tomorrow, he will come from home at 10 o’clock.

In the type of verbs ходить, it has three periods of time like all of the imperfective verbs: present tense, past tense, and future tense. Examples:

  • Обычно я выхожу из дома в 9 часов.
    ‘Usually I leave home at 9 o’clock.’
  • Работая на заводе, я всегда выходила из дома в 6 часов.
‘Job is at factory, I always left home at 6 o’clock.’
  • Теперь, поступив на другую работу, я буду выходить из дома в 7 часов.
‘Now, after entering another job, I will leave home at 7 o’clock.’
